Pittsburgh guitarist Reb Beach, of Winger and Whitesnake fame, gave us a treat today when he played a show at the opening of the Carnegie Science Center's Guitars exhibit. Between Winger classics and tunes from his upcoming solo release, Reb played displayed his talent playing old tunes, answered questions, talked about how he got started and gave anecdotes about his career. He even did an acoustic version of Rocky Racoon, that he says he plays every Christmas at the family get-together. At one point, Reb brought out a little guitar made from a cigar box (the CigFiddle), that he says he actually plays quite often. It actually sounded quite good for such a little thing. Both before and after the show, Reb took time to talk to fans, sign autographs and take photos. His latest endeavor, The Reb Beach Project, will play it's first show on Aug. 15 at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, where they will open for Tesla. After the taste he gave us of his new stuff, I'm really looking forward to the show.
The exhibit itself was most interesting, with everything from the world's largest, playable guitar to some of the oldest. Guitars from some famous folks, like Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai were present. There was even a guitar made from an old Mickey Mouse lunch box.
