12/25/17 Whitesnake Releases Video for "Burn"
As a Christmas present to fans, Whitesnake released the video for the single "Burn" today. The song is off the album The Purple Tour (Live), which will be released Jan. 19, 2018. Check out the video here. The band will be on the road again this summer as part of the Juke Box Heros Tour with Foreigner and Jason Bonham. 12/14/17 The Cars to be Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
The third time was the charm for new wave rockers The Cars. Strong fan support kept them near the top of the fan voting and the nominating committee saw fit to give them the nod this time around. The band, which had broken up many years ago, got together in 2011 to make a new album, Move Like This, despite having lost bass player Benjamin Orr to cancer in 2000. There was a limited tour at that time, but nothing since. Fans are eager to see if the band will get back together for the induction ceremony, and how they will honor Orr if they do. 1/3/18 RFL Records Looks for New Talent, Announces New Signings
The Pittsburgh-based label was established under the company Rock in the FastLane in July 2016 by Jon Marchewka. They feature artists Silk9, Black Knots, Hydrogyn and Perfect Strangers (featuring Ronny Munroe of Metal Church and Trans-Siberian Orchestra). 1/6/18 Judas Priest Releases Video "Lightning Strike"
Heavy Metal power house Judas Priest just released the video for "Lightning Strike" from their new album Firepower ,set to arrive in March. Check out the video here. 1/6/18 Rick Springfield to Release Blues Album Titled The Snake King
Musician and actor, Rick Springfield may be best known for his 80's hits and his role on General Hospital, but he has been putting out albums and touring steadily since. His latest, The Snake King, is a departure from the norm for him. This album will take listeners down a dusty, dirt road and straignt into the blues. The first single, "Little Demon" is available for streaming on various sites, and the album is due out on Jan. 26. Rick has many tour dates already listed, with more to be added, no doubt. 1/16/18 Merriweather Post Pavilion Plans to Open in Time for Spring Concerts After Roof Collapse
The roof that covers the stage and seating area of the pavilion fell in this past Saturday. The pavilion was undergoing renovations at the time and no one was hurt in the collapse. Officials state that the pavilion will be ready for the spring concert season, which generally begins in April, though no shows have yet been announced prior to a July 14 appearance by Sugarland. Many are still eagerly awaiting the announcements for the M3 Festival, a gathering of 80's bands and those with a similar style. The festival traditionally runs in April or May. 1/16/18 Frank Hannon to Release New Solo Album Jan. 26, 2018
Tesla guitarist and songwriter, Frank Hannon, has a new solo project and the first album is set to be released on Jan. 26. The project is a collection of covers called From One Place... To Another! and will allow Hannon to explore his range as a vocalist, something he doesn't get to do much in Tesla. 1/17/18 Dead Daisies Set to Release New Album, Burn It Down, on April 6, 2018
The Dead Daisies will release their 4th studio album on April 6 via Spitfire Music. Featuring John Corabi (Motley Crue, The Scream), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy), David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink) and now Deen Castronovo (Journey, Bad English), the band is quite the super group. 1/19/18 Guitarist Ethan Brosh Set To Return With ‘Conspiracy’ On February 16th
This will be the guitar virtuoso's third album and will feature rock guitar instrumentals and a special appearance by Satchel of Steel Panther. Brosh has played with such greats as SteelHeart, Michael Sweet, Carmine Appice, Eric Martin, George Lynch, Dave Ellefson, Pat Travers and many others. A tour will follow the release. 1/19/18 Def Leppard Announces Tour with Journey
Def Leppard teams up with Journey for a North American summer tour starting in Hartford, CT in May. The 58 date tour will wind up in L.A. on Oct. 3. Following that, the band will head to the UK and Ireland for several dates where they will perform Hysteria in its entirety. 1/22/18 Slayer Announce Farewell World Tour
Via Twitter, Slayer announced that they will be ending their 30+ year career after one final world tour. No reasons were given, but frontman Tom Araya had undergone back surgery in 2010 and had stated that it was becoming more difficult to perform live. Guitarist Kerry King previously mentioned that an album could be forthcoming this year, but no other info has been released on that. Tour dates have not been released, but supporting acts have been announced to be: Lamb of God, Anthrax, Behemoth and Testament.
Joe Perry to do In-Store Signing at Newbury Comics in Boston
If you’re in the Boston area on Jan. 25, 2018, and are a Joe Perry fan, he will be at Newbury Comics starting at 6pm to do a signing in support of his latest CD, Sweetzerland Manifesto. The CD contains 10 new tracks, written or co-written by Joe and one cover. 1/23/18 Neil Diamond to Stop Touring
Citing a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and the difficulties it has caused with keeping up with the demands of his touring schedule, Mr. Diamond has decided to retire. The award winning artist has canceled the remainder of his 50th anniversary tour, apologizing to fans on his web page. He states he will continue to write and record.
1/24/18 Elton John Announces Farewell Tour
Today Elton John, another artist with a 50+ year career, has announced his farewell tour. The multi-award winning artist, who recently had a major health scare, cited the desire to spend time with his family as his reason for giving up touring. The farewell tour, dubbed “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”, is slated to cover the globe, last several years and 300 shows. His manager indicates he is working on his memoirs and may have some other surprises for his fans.
1/24/18 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Announces Dates, Lineup
This festival isn't just for Jazz Lovers. This year's headliners are Sting, Steve Miller Band and Aerosmith. The festival, spanning April 27 to May 6, 2018, also features such notables as Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Buffet, Lionel Ritchie, Cage the Elephant and Buddy Guy. 1/25/18 Lynyrd Skynyrd Announces Farewell Tour
Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd announced the first leg of their farewell tour today. Dubbed the "Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour" is set to run thru the spring and summer, starting in West Palm Beach on May 4. Other southern rock bands, such as Bad Company, Marshall Tucker Band and Blackfoot, are expected to share the stage with the legends throughout the tour. 1/29/18 M3 Rock Festival Announces 2018 Lineup
After what seemed like a never-ending wait this time, M3 has finally announced the lineup for their 10th anniversary festival. Scheduled for May 4, 5 and 6, the festival will again feature 2-day, 3-day and VIP packages, slated to go on sale starting Feb. 2 thru Ticketfly. Single day tickets will be available at a later date. This year's format will again feature the Rock and Metal bands on Friday night and all-day Saturday, with Southern Rock on Sunday. The lineups are less jam-packed than previous years, so either there are more announcements to come, or they trying to allow everyone a more leisurly experience. 2/2/18 Michael Schenker is Set to Release new Album and Kick Off North American Tour in March
His latest album, Resurrection, will be released on March 2nd, and the month-long Michael Schenker Fest will kick off on March 6th in Maryland. The tour will feature three previous Michael Schenker Group Vocalists - Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley - in addition to Temple of Rock vocalist Doogie White. Working early in his career with both the Scorpions and UFO, Schenker is probably best known for his work with MSG. Meet and Greet packages are available. 2/5/18 REO Speedwwagon and Chicago to Co-Headline Summer Tour
Chicago and REO Speedwagon join the list of bands announcing c-headlining tours for the summer. The tour will encompass 30 North American dates and will kick-off in mid-June in California. Chicago plans to perform their second album, Chicago II in its entirety, along with a set of their hits. REO plans a more traditional set of their hits plus some deep cuts. Tickets go on sale Feb. 9. 2/6/18 Loudness Cancels MORC and Puerto Rico Shows
Japanese band Loudness put out an announcement today that their appearances on the Monsters of Rock Cruise and at a show in Puerto Rico this month had to be cancelled due to "unforseen circumstances". The band is scheduled to appear at the M3 Rock Festival in May, but has had to cancel this festival in the past. They say they are working hard to make M3 happen this year, but time will tell. 2/6/18 Poison Announces U.S. Summer Tour with Cheap Trick
With all original members, Poison will launch a summer tour of the U.S. in mid-May, joined by Cheap Trick. Pop Evil will be included on many of the dates, but others have no supporting band yet listed. The tour will kick off in California and will run thru June. 2/6/18 Ozzy Osbourne Announces No More Tours 2
In what seems to be a trend this year, rocker Ozzy Osbourne has announced his No More Tours 2. The tour name is a spoof on his first "final" tour back in the '90's. Osbourne states that he will not retire from the road completely, but will no longer do European tours or longer stretches on the road so he can spend more time at home. The tour will start in FL in April, then shift to South America and Europe before coming back to the States toward the end of the year. Check out Ozzy's website here for more info.
2/8/18 Pat Torpey, Mr. Big Drummer, Dies at age 64
On Wednesday, founding member and drummer for the band Mr. Big, died as a result of complications from Parkinson’s disease. Prior to being recruited into Mr. Big, Torpey played with the likes of Tina Turner and The Knack. Despite the diagnosis, he continued to perform with Mr. Big as background vocalist and percussionist and contributed to their 2017 album, Defying Gravity. From the outpouring of affection by his bandmates and others close to him, it’s obvious how well loved he was.
2/12/18 Judas Priest Announces Glenn Tipton's Parkinson's Diagnosis
He was first diagnosed 10 years ago, but due to the progression of the disease, he feels he cannot maintain the quality he expects from himself in a performance, and so will miss much of the Firepower tour. Glenn has requested that Andy Sneap take his place on stage. According to Glenn, "I want everyone to know that it's vital that the Judas Priest tour go ahead and that I am not leaving the band - it's simply that my role has changed. I don't rule out the chance to go on stage as and when I feel able to blast out some Priest! So at some point in the not too distant future I'm really looking forward to seeing all of our wonderful metal maniacs once again." Firepower will be released March 9, with the tour starting soon after.
2/13/18 Styx Announces Summer Tour with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Tesla
Another summer tour has been announced today. Styx will be hitting the road with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Tesla. The tour starts May 30th in California and will end in mid-July in New Jersey.
